David Hutchins Innovation is delighted to announce the winner of the ‘Student of the Year Award 2019’. Selected from a strong pool of candidates, David Couldrey, Technical Director at Wicks Manor is currently studying the Diploma in Quality Leadership. DHI Chairman and Principal, David Hutchins said ‘David has shown hard work and dedication throughout, he is a dynamic role model, he submits his assignments promptly and has achieved excellent grades in each unit. David’s attitude and desire to succeed is clearly evident, he is very enthusiastic and keen to apply the concepts in his organisation”.
Speaking about his experience and receiving the award, David Couldrey said “it came as a great surprise. I have gained so much already from doing this course and to get ‘Student of the Year’ as well, has really excelled my confidence in this area”. David has already completed a Masters Degree and is now undertaking the online Diploma in his own time. We asked him how he manages to juggle his study time with a full time job and family. “I have set times that I study. This enables me to pick up from where I left off, rather than having to constantly re-cap the material. My study time is outside of work hours so it doesn’t interfere with my work. My family is very supportive and appreciate that I need time to study in order to achieve my goals. I feel it’s important to make sure quality time is also set aside to spend time with my family”. Asked what his biggest challenges have been with regard to distance learning “ the biggest challenge is not to exceed the time I have set aside to study. It’s very easy to get carried away”. David plans to continue with his studies after the Diploma and complete the Higher Diploma in Quality Management. We asked him what his career plans were for the future? “As for my career, I do need to sit down and think about this at some point. My original goal was to become a Technical Manager in the Meat Industry which I achieved some time ago. It was then to get a degree to back up my knowledge in the role, which I finally achieved in 2017 at Harper Adams University with the support of a Scholarship awarded by the Worshipful Company of Butchers. As for now, I’m thoroughly enjoying applying my new knowledge. This obviously couldn’t be done without the support of Wicks Manor”.
The Student of the Year Award is an opportunity to highlight the exceptional achievement of students – someone who has achieved, whether in assessed assignments or overcoming adversity, the contribution that the student has made to DHIQC and the inspirational nature of these accomplishments. We wholeheartedly congratulate David on his well deserved success.
